To all NACE International West Asia & Africa Area, Sections and Members
At the October 2012 Board of Directors Meeting the Board unanimously approved the opening of a NACE International Area headquarters support office in Saudi Arabia for the West Asia & Africa Area. The Area office is headed by Dr. Gasem Fallatah, a long time distinguished NACE member who will be the primary point of contact for the office. He will initially be hiring one full time person to assist and support the NACE International Area Office activities. Gasem can be reached atGasem.Fallatah@nace.org
The West Asia and Africa countries are an important and growing part of NACE International and the Board of Directors believe local regional headquarters support is critical to supporting the Area. The new office will help member leaders grow Area and Section activities. Some of the goals for the next two years include:
· Increase Area membership to a minimum of 2,200
· Add a minimum of three new Sections in the Area including at least one in Africa
· In conjunction with the Sections, conduct two new or expanded conferences/seminars/
· Increase communication and cooperation between the Sections and the Area membership
· Increase participation in development and leadership in the production of technical standards
· Increase local Area headquarters support by matching local work and time schedules
The Area office will focus on increasing value for members, and supporting Section and Area activities.
This office will be modeled after the successful support office in the East Asia & Pacific Rim Area. That office is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and in its first two years NACE has seen a 60% increase in Area membership, six new Sections, two Area conferences per year hosting more than 700 attendees, and significantly increased interaction between the Sections. This type of vision, and plan, is what we would like to bring to our members in Africa and West Asia.
This is an important time for the Area and it will require your continued dedication and leadership to maximize this opportunity. The heart and head of NACE International are the members and it comes from the Section level. Our goal is to grow the Sections throughout the Area and that is the reason to open the Area office.

NACE Dhahran Section officers and 50 of its Members recently bid farewell to Vincenzo Savino in a party organized by the section at Movanpic Hotel in Al-Khobar on November 21, 2011. Vincenzo Savino has served the section as membership chairman and distinguished himself as a hardworking and dedicated colleague to the section. During the party, Enzo was asked to give an advice for the members in general and the officers in particular. He stressed on the commitment toward serving the members as a key success factor for any section. This is because such activities are voluntary and people usually put them as second in their priorities. The Section handed a gift to Mr. Enzo in appreciation for his good efforts during the two years of his involvement with the section as an officer. The gift was handed to him by Mr. Ahmed Al-Omair, one of the pioneers in the section and Mr. Mohammed Al-Subaie, the section chairman. Enzo is leaving on a high note with all his colleagues acknowledging that he has made a lasting impression to his section and the organization at large. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
NACE Dhahran was honored to sponsor the trip of high school students to a local orphanage. The trip was a special project for the school that aims to "bring joy and happiness in the heart of orphaned children and to make them feel the presence of people who care for them" According to Salma Fallatah, one of the students who participated in the project. The students of the second high school for girls in Al Khobar made the trip on Wednesday 23 November, 2011. Despite some difficulties, the students were able to execute a program full of fun activities and games for the children there. They also provided snacks and candies along with handing out gifts. NACE Dhahran would like to thank the students for allowing NACE to be a part of such charitable deed.
